This might be the wildest ever thrift find!

I am a young bride and finding an affordable dress was essential for me. I discovered a vintage wedding dress from the 1980s hanging on the rack at my neighbourhood thrift store. I purchased it for $70.

OKAY… UHMMM I JUST FOUND $700 CASH IN A SUIT POCKET

Old junk turns into vintage collectibles worth thousands.
I stopped at a thrift store during a road trip because I needed the bathroom and felt like I should buy something. I picked up a small wooden box from the closest shelf for four dollars. It looked decorative but nothing special. The box stayed in my car for six weeks. When I finally took it inside and opened it I realized it wasn’t empty.
There was a folded piece of paper inside and underneath it sat six silver teaspoons in a velvet insert I hadn’t seen before. The paper was a letter dated 1887 written by hand in French. It mentioned the spoons were a wedding gift. I looked up the hallmarks on the spoons just out of curiosity. They turned out to be Georgian silver made in London with hallmarks from 1791. They were in nearly perfect condition.
The set sold for eight thousand four hundred dollars. I kept the letter even though I don’t read French. I had someone translate it for me. It said may you always have enough and may the table always be full. I think about those words more than I thought I would.
Thought I was buying a purse, found a time capsule inside.

I have kept these 1930’s Salvatore Ferragamo shoes for 8 years after I found them for $8 from Savers. Today, they are being shipped to the museum in Italy!

My $50 marketplace buy! 1960s Italian coffee table. Olive wood veneer. Made in the 60s in the Louis the 16th style. In pristine condition.

Somehow on a busy Saturday, a boxed 1962 Barbie was just sitting on a shelf for $11. Still has original $2 tag.

I walked into a side of the road “moving sale” on a Sunday afternoon not expecting to find much of anything. I’m tickled pink.

Thrift store finds turn old junk into tiny treasures of joy.
Hard something rattling around in the lining. I ripped open the seam & pulled out a USB drive that had been wrapped in electrical tape. Someone had written one word on it in marker: DONT. I figured it probably had family photos or maybe some old homework files on it.
What I found was source code. There were thousands of lines of it & everything was documented & annotated. It was clearly someone’s entire life’s work. The software looked complete and sophisticated even though I didn’t really understand what it did. I posted about it on a developer forum with a screenshot and asked if anyone recognized it. Within six hours I had thirty-four responses. A startup founder sent me a private message saying he had been searching for this codebase for two years. It turned out that DONT was actually the name of the software.
It had belonged to a developer who died suddenly & apparently left no copies anywhere that anyone could find. The start-up founder asked me what I wanted for it. I honestly had no idea how to answer that question. We spent three weeks negotiating. I knew absolutely nothing about software but I understood that I had something someone needed badly. The jacket had cost me six dollars.
The drive ended up selling for one hundred and eighty thousand dollars. I still don’t know what the software actually does. I don’t need to anymore.
Found at Savers!

My MIL assembled this from thrift store jewelry she’s collected over the year.

I thrifted a pair of black boots for $8 and to my surprise they had a bag of rings hidden in the toe. The boots ended up being trash, the soles were split, so I don’t feel as bad. Most are stamped 14k!

Found a Cartier New York, Platinum, Sapphire, and Diamond lapel pin over the weekend for $5.

Getting married and have had bad luck finding a dress…picked this up for $40 at Goodwill today.
